About 20 years ago we wanted to find a companion dog for our wieeeeeener dog Mocha and began calling dog rescue programs. A lady at a rescue program called back and told us about a Pomeranian who was going to be euthanized the next day. We told her over the phone we would take Blackie and she drove him 100 miles and gave us our new dog on labor day. We named Blackie, Bear, and the rest is history. Bear lived 18 and a quarter years and died in my arms and Mocha lived 14 and a half years and died in my arms–and they both live in my soul. They were both unforgettable and they had their quirks–Mocha would dig to China and Bear liked to run away–so we had to seal up the yard and guard the door if anyone came over–so Bear would not run out the door and around the neighborhood getting lost, stolen, or possibly hurt by a car or an animal.
Enter Kobee, The American Eskimo–a Bear Look Alike.
I was on an evening walk with Dr. J, Davis (DK) and Terry when we looked up the stairway to an upstairs apartment and there was this beautiful white dog who looked like Bear. He looked lost but got very nervous when I tried to approach. We kept track and when he was still there the next day, I gradually made friends by giving him water and food and talking to him.
When we got back from the walk he had eaten the food–and so for many hours I talked to him, Terry brought more food and Dr. J and DK brought dog treats. And finally, Kobee let me get close and I was able to read his tag and call his owners. The owners came and got him and everyone cried–when they were all reunited. Something about this story healed and helped me from all the terrible things in the world. I learned to love Kobee instantly and hope he never gets out or runs away again–I will never forget him.
